Vertical Upward Flow Map Toolbox Tab

A Toolbox Tab is available that implements the equations provided by Taitel et al. (1980) to create the flow regime map for a vertical upward two phase flow.  The toolbox tab can be used if you have a Professional License of EES by downloading the .eestab file from the fchart website and then opening by selecting Open Tab when you right-click on one of the tabs.    The specific flow map obtained by Vertical Upward Flow Map 2 is for an air-water mixture at room temperature and pressure in a 5 cm tube.  The Toolbox Tab can be used to make a flow map that is relevant to any fluid and condition for a given tube geometry.

Information regarding the axes follows.

y-axis

superficial liquid velocity = G*(1-x)/rho_L

x-axis

superficial gas velocity = G*x/rho_G

where

G = total mass flux (m_dot/A)

x = quality
