Vertical Buoyant Jet

 

 

Provides a plot showing the dimensionless centerline velocity for a vertical buoyant jet based on the work by Chen and Chen (1979).

 

Information regarding the variables follows.

 

y-axis:

U1 = (Ucl/U0) F1/3 (r0/ra)-1/3 = dimensionless centerline velocity

 

where:

  Ucl = centerline velocity

  U0 = exit velocity

  r0 = exit density

  ra = ambient density

 

  F = r0 U02 /(g D (ra - r0)) = Froude number   

 

x-axis:

X(overbar) = F-1/2 (r0/ra)-1/4 (X/D) = dimensionless axial location

 

where:

  X = distance from exit

  D = diameter
