Use the $ees skill to install the launcher for my EES Professional at C:\EES32\ees.exe. Use the recommended launcher and workspace locations, run the complete installation test with normal Windows filesystem access, and report the exact workspace path.
EES Professional + Codex on Windows
Ask for the engineering result. Keep EES as the solver.
EES for Codex gives Codex a repeatable way to find EES routines, write a transparent equation model, run your local copy of EES Professional, and check the exported result.
Requires Windows, the ChatGPT desktop app with Codex, and a separately licensed EES Professional installation.
Use the $ees skill to calculate the rate of heat transfer required to increase the temperature of water flowing at 1 kg/s and 200 kPa from 20 C to 60 C.
- 01Load the EES workflow
- 02Write an auditable text model
- 03Solve with local EES Professional
- 04Check units and energy balance

What the skill contributes
More than opening EES
Codex can start an application without a skill. The value here is the engineering workflow applied before, during, and after the solve.
Without the skill
- Launcher and workspace choices may be improvised
- Existing EES routines may be overlooked
- Model and output structure varies by task
- A completed process may be mistaken for a checked result
With EES for Codex
- Uses the configured launcher and exact workspace
- Searches the current EES routine catalog first
- Saves the model and a fresh structured export
- Checks units, balances, feasibility, and assumptions
Installation
From marketplace to first solve
The plugin supplies the workflow and matching launcher installer. EES Professional remains a separate product installed on your computer.
-
1
Add the marketplace
In Codex, open Plugins from the sidebar. Select Add, then Add Marketplace, and enter the repository below.
-
2
Install Engineering Equation Solver
Open the plugin and use the available action. Depending on the app version, it may appear as a plus button, Try now, or Install.
-
3
Start a new Codex task
Close the matching interactive EES application, begin a new task, and ask the skill to install the launcher for your EES executable.
-
4
Run the first model
Use the example prompt below. Codex will preserve the equation file, exported result, and an explanation of the engineering checks.

Use the $ees skill to calculate the rate of heat transfer required to increase the temperature of water flowing at 1 kg/s and 200 kPa from 20 C to 60 C. Save the model and exported result, check units and the energy balance, and explain the assumptions.

Requirements and practical details
What you need
Windows 10 or 11, Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, and an existing EES Professional installation.
Choose by EES edition
ees.exe uses the 32-bit launcher and ees64.exe uses the 64-bit launcher. Windows bitness does not make that choice.
No extra runtime
The launcher does not require administrator privileges, Python, Node.js, a service, or a system PATH change.
Files stay inspectable
Equation models and exported results are kept in the selected local workspace so the calculation can be reviewed and repeated.
Does the skill include EES?
No. EES Professional and its license are required separately. The plugin supplies workflow instructions and the local launcher package.
Can Codex run EES without this skill?
Codex can open an application directly. The skill adds a consistent model/output contract, catalog-first discovery, controlled execution, stale-result protection, and engineering checks.
Does a successful solve certify an engineering design?
No. The workflow helps make calculations transparent and reviewable, but it does not provide professional engineering certification or replace qualified engineering judgment.
