ETHANOL

ETHANOL  provides high accuracy thermodynamic properties for deuterium (Molar mass =46.069 kg/kmol) using the Fundamental Equation of State, as described by:

J. A. Schroeder, S. G. Penoncello, and J. S. Schroeder

"A Fundamental Equation of State for Ethanol"

Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data 43, 043102 (2014)

This implementation in version 9.755 replaces the previous less accurate equation of state described in the following paper:

H.E. Dillion and  S.G. Penoncello

"A FUNDAMENTAL EQUATION FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF ETHANOL"

Fifteenth Symposium on Thermophysical Properties, June 22-27, 2003, Boulder, Colorado, U.S.A.

Note that the reference state in the current implementation differs from the reference state that was used in this earlier implementation.

Reference State

    h =200 kJ/kg, s = 1.00 kJ/kg-K at 273.15 K, saturated liquid.  The reference state can be changed using the $Reference directive.

Range of applicability for equation of state:

   160 K < T < 650 K

 0 < P < 280 MPa

Correlations for viscosity and thermal conductivity of ethanol were obtained from:

Yaws, C.L, Chemical Properties Handbook, McGraw-Hill Handbooks, 1999.

The correlations compared well with the experimental data in:

M.J. Assael and S.K. Polimatidou

"Measurements of the Viscosity of Alcohols in the Temperature Range 290-340 K at pressure up to 30 MPa."

Int. J. of Thermophysics, VOl. 15, No. 1, 1994

M.J. Assael, E. Chritidou, and C.A. Nieto de Castro

"Absolute Measurements of the Thermal Conductivity of Alcohols by the Transient Hot-Wire Technique"

Int. J. of Thermophysics, Vol. 9, No. 5, 1988

Surface tension data are provided through a correlation developed by:

G.R. Somayajulu

"A Generalized Equation for Surface Tension from the Triple Point to the Critical Point"

International Journal of Thermophysics, Vol. 9, No. 4, 1988

The melting pressure curve (valid for temperatures between 159.1K and 390 K) is determined from:

Lide, D.R. and Kehiaian, H.V.,

CRC Handbook of Thermophysical and Thermochemical Data
